Frame Wants To Craft A Unique Experience For You

What do you miss most about life before COVID? For us, it's experiences. We have learned that there is no amount of money that can replace the excitement that you get when you are looking forward to a new experience and it's harder than ever before to get that feeling because we can't gather or go out to share new experiences. But, this doesn't mean that all hope is lost. There have been some seriously smart businesses that have found new ways to offer people an experience that they haven't had before without having to put their health and safety at risk.

Frame in Hazel Park understands that experiences are hard to come by so they have carefully crafted an entire month of experiences that you can purchase and enjoy in the comfort of your own home. This includes an interesting collection of Valentine's Day experiences and a week-long Mardi Gras party.

Their Valentine's Day parties range from a celebrate yourself at home self-care package with a hand-crafted Sea Salt + Orchid Candle from Hazel Park’s very own Maxlow Candle Co., Antica’s Prosecco Bubble Bath, and champagne picked by Frame’s sommelier Bryan Lamorena to ignite your self-love, to a smelling and tasting package that was created in collaboration with Sfumato Fragrances that would be perfect for the quarantining couple. To reserve an experience, all you have to do is book a spot. Then, you can a pick-up time you experience and bring it home to unpackage at your leisure.

Detroit's Most Talented Come Together to Raise Money for Planned Parenthood this Valentine's Day

From 2017 to 2018 Planned Parenthood provided care to around 2.5 million patients, which added up to 9.7 million services, including over 4 million STI test and treatments, half a million breast exams, and 2 million birth control prescriptions. They also provided abortions to women who chose to end their pregnancies, which only accounts for around 3% of the program's services, but contributes to 100% of the program's problems. Many people get so worked up over the fact that SOME Planned Parenthood providers offer abortion services that they forget all the great things that this place does for women. Thankfully, Detroit's strongest women haven't forgotten how important Planned Parenthood is for our futures and they are doing something special to make sure that Planned Parenthood has all the money they need to keep providing their services to those in need.

Bevlove, Britney Stoney, Stef Chura, Willa Rae, Anna Burch, Deadbeat Beat, True Blue, don't and Ladylike are all coming together at Deluxx Fluxx this Valentine's Day to celebrate every woman's true love, reproductive freedom and choice! Tickets to attend the show are $15 and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood. Doors for this one are at 7 p.m. and this is THE PERFECT WAY to celebrate Valentine's Day while helping raise money for a great cause!

Spend Valentines Day with Patti Smith

Let's be honest, most of us hate Valentine's Day. Some of us hate it because we are spending it alone and others hate it because there are so many expectations and it's so easy to disappoint. Usually, we would encourage you to avoid the night all together but this year there is something fun to do that doesn't require you to be part of a couple or even care about love!

The legendary Patti Smith is releasing her latest book Devotion on Wednesday, February 14th at the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre. This book promises readers an inside look at Smith's creative process and the Valentine's Day event offers fans a chance to get up close and personal with the author while picking up a copy of the book to take home and read. Patti will be speaking, but she will not be signing copies of the book after the chat.
Tickets to attend the event are $20 in advance and each ticket purchased includes a copy of the new book. Seating at the event is general admission and groups will be seated on a first come first serve basis. The event starts at 7 p.m. on the 14th and tickets will sell out in advance, so make sure that you scoop yours up soon.

Screw candy hearts and overbooked restaurants! Spend the "holiday" with Patti and live a life of no

They will also be blasting lots of 90's R&B and The Nosh Pit food truck will be parked right outside the door serving up food throughout the night. Plus, they will have a craft table set up for everyone to make their own Valentine's Day cards for the person who holds their heart. Spend Val-entine's with MPV

MPV (formally know as My Pal Val) is kicking off 2015 with a bang. They have changed their name and they are gearing up to release a new EP this March entitled In Lust We Trust. I've been playing the EP daily since I received an advance copy of it and I'm really excited for everyone else to hear it.  The band did a great job recording the music and the songs are extremely catchy, I find myself singing them for hours after I listen to it. If you would like to get a sneak peek of their new music, you can hear a piece of the EP's opening song "Mister Sister" by visiting the band's new website here.

To celebrate the release of the new music, MPV has scheduled a few shows that you can attend before the official release of the EP on March 3rd. They kicked off this week by appearing on Ann Delisi's Essential Music this past Sunday, February 8th. They will likely be replaying the live in-studio sessions throughout the week so make sure to visit Anne's website here.

Next up, the band will play The Loving Touch this Saturday, February 14th for Val-entine's Day. The show is only $5 at the door and the night will include music from The Erers and Those Hounds. MPV will be releasing a limited 7"  at this show that features 2 of the 4 songs that will be released on the EP in just a few weeks!

Then, they will follow up this weekend's show by opening up our 3 Year Anniversary Bash at Small's in Hamtramck a week later. We are honored that they are going to grace the stage and come out and celebrate with us.  We think that anyone who hasn't seen this band in the past should make it a point to come out to one or both of these shows!

Love is in the Air at UFO Factory!

Photo Borrowed for UFO Factory's Facebook
Love is in the air. Next weekend is Valentine's Day, the day where everyone has stars in their eyes and love in their heart. In celebration of this lovey dovey holiday UFO Factory has declared February love month.

Here's the deal, every Tuesday night UFO Factory shows a free double feature. Admission is free and there's even free popcorn. Well, this month all of the movies will be love stories. For instance, last week's selections were Grease and Xanadu. The choices for this coming week, February 10th, haven't been made yet, so you can make a suggestion on the Facbeook event page here. Whatever movies they choose, we thought this would be the perfect date night. So we wanted to make sure to give you a few days notice so you can invite that special someone. This is the perfect way to take out that guy or gal you've been crushing on and thinking about making your Valentine. Or if you already have a Valentine, you can start celebrating your love early. Heck, if you're single maybe you will find someone else here that is just as in love with love as you are! If nothing else, you will at least have a fun night out and you don't have to pay a dime to do it. Judging by the list of movies shown in the past, you're guaranteed to see at least one awesome movie too, if not two.

UFO Factory is located at 2110 Trumbull in Detroit. The first movie is set to start at 9 p.m. To stay in the loop on which movies will be played this month, and every month, RSVP to the Facebook event page here.

Vagina Day: Come See James Linck at The Loving Touch with Ratking & More!

Photo: thursday, me and Lianna are putting out our cover of marvin gaye & tammi terrell's you're all i need to get by

This Thursday, all the lovers of the world will be exchanging cards and giving each other candy and jewelry to celebrate their love for each other. They will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in the way that Hallmark has told them to celebrate and show their love.

Here at Hip in Detroit, we do not believe much in Valentine’s Day or any holiday that excludes all the single people out there. I personally have never celebrated this holiday although I am in a relationship and have been for the last 6 years. Instead, about 10 years ago I started celebrating Vagina Day on February 14 instead. Vagina Day was started by the V-Day organization, which was created by Eve Ensler. The organization brings the Vagina Monologues to cities all over the world and changes the way that we think and talk about vaginas. I usually wear a “Happy Vagina Day" shirt and walk around town yelling vagina at everyone that I see to celebrate every Valentine’s Day.

This year I will be celebrating my Vagina Day a little differently. I plan to go see my music obsession James Linck play at The Loving Touch. He will be preforming with Ratking featuring Pablo Sebastian and Doss The Artist. There is no better way to get out and have fun than to hear some great music performed live. I have invited all my favorite vaginas to join me for a drink and I would like you to do the same. All you single’s lets pack the place, have a drink, watch some music and celebrate vaginas this February 14th. Now you have no reason to sit home and mope.

This show is only $7 at the door, starts at 9 p.m. and 18+ are welcome. We wish you all a very happy Vagina Day indeed.

Get In The Mood

So today is not only Valentine's Day and Vagina Day, it is also the annual Dirty Show in Detroit. It takes place every Valentine's weekend and is going on now until February 18th.

For those who may not know already, The Dirty Show is an erotic art exhibition that has become one of the largest in the world. The show features performance artists dancers, and the spoken word and draws people from all over the world.

We had a chance to catch up with a couple people involved in the show.

HipInDetroit- How long have you been involved in The Dirty Show and how did you get involved?
Bri- I've been involved with the dirty show for four years. I started off modeling and doing shows for Noir Leather and we did a skit at the dirty show a few years back. I took a year or so off from the modeling and dancing in the show and then came back to the dirty show in 2010.

HipInDetroit- What is your role in the show?
Bri- I'm a go-go dancer. I dance in the cages for most of the night. Then walk around amongst the crowd.
HipInDetroit- How would you explain The Dirty Show to someone who has never been?
Bri- The dirty show is the place to go if you want to see people be who they really are, no judgment, no bullshit, just real people. The art is amazing and racy, as well as the acts that perform on stage throughout the night. Its nothing like you will ever see, but it opens your eyes to a whole new world that most people shy away from.
HipInDetroit- Do you have an inside tip about this years show? Or is there something that makes it different from years past?

Bri- The show gets better as the years go on, everyone that works it finds ways to make it better and more enticing each year. The people that put it on have grown and found ways to make it run more smoothly (from a behind the scenes perspective). I don't really have any inside scoop. I just think that everyone should go and experience it at least once, its an eye opener.

Our other friend had this to say about the show:
'Doing The Dirty Show for the second year in a row is great. Being around all this creativity and self expression is such a breath of fresh air. Another reason why I love performing at it is because it makes me feel comfortable with my body and to appreciate the human anatomy'

We think it all sounds pretty great, so if you're feeling dirty, you better get your butt over there.

Happy Vagina Day! Holidays That Leave Others Out Are So Lame!

While many couples will be getting together tonight to spend way too much money on a meal, flowers, or chocolates, I will likely be at the gym. That is beside the point, though. The point is that I am not one to celebrate Valentine's Day, although I do have quite an amazing Valentine. I'm not bragging, just saying its not my kind of tea party.

Instead, a few years ago, I started celebrating Vagina Day! Rather than making your coworker or cousin Cindy feel bad for not being half of a two person love team (because that's the be all, end all right?), you can celebrate the fact that you are an amazing woman or man, who came from an amazing woman, or loves a amazing woman or is father or mother to an amazing woman. Basically, everyone came from and loves a vagina and that's a fun thing to celebrate. I always send cards to the women who made me the woman that I am and I celebrate the women who help me get through the day. A few years ago I made shirts that said "I love vagina!" and threw a huge party, that surprisingly was one of the best attended parties that I ever threw, go figure!

But, it was fun to celebrate strong women throughout the world, and remember that there are still women fighting for the right to vote, be born, go to school and to fulfill their dreams. Women are being abused, degraded, and paying outrageous prices for birth control! We forget how amazing those vaginas are!

Take a second today and tell the many amazing women in your life how special they are!

Check out to learn more about the fight against all violences against women.
I'm all about celebrating the vagina for Valentine's Day, go tell you friend, your mom, your sister, your coworker, your teacher and your girlfriend that you love their vagina. That shouldn't be grounds for termination right?

Sidenote: For all you smart assess out there that say "what about penis day?" I say to you- everyday is penis day, that's kind of what this whole fight for equal rights thing is all about! So boom!
