Hum & Glow of Winter Brings Art to Beacon Park

This week, Beacon Park welcomed back the art of Michael Polakowski for the season. The park showcased his art in the winter of 2020 as well, but now it is back on display with some fresh new pieces for 2021. The show is called "Hum & Glow of Winter" and it is presented by Playground Detroit along with DTE's Beacon Park. An illustrator and muralist, Polakowski's display depicts "various green-spaces and neighborhoods throughout Detroit through light and energy that can be felt throughout the winter season". You can get a sneak peek of the art that is on display here

"Hum & Glow of Winter" is on display now through the end of February. The installation is open to the public and free to view daily during park hours, which are 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Beacon Park is located at 1903 Grand River Ave. in Detroit. To see more art from Polakowski, give him a follow on Facebook and Instagram

The Night Market Returns to Beacon Park

Photo from Beacon Park's Facebook Page
After months of businesses being closed and events being canceled due to COVID-19, things are beginning to reopen. Of course, the summer of 2020 doesn't feel quite like our past summers, but there is still fun to be had. In fact, one summer favorite made its comeback this past weekend, the Night Market at Beacon Park.

The Beacon Park Night Market features shopping, food, and craft beverages all from local vendors. It will also feature live music from local acts! All of this will be done while keeping social distancing in mind. To do so, the park has released the following guidelines:
1. Stay home if you feel sick
2. Masks or face coverings are required
3. Maintain 6ft of physical distance between others
4. Frequently use hand washing stations located in every park
The Night Market is currently set to take place every Saturday until the end of August. The event runs from 7 p.m. until midnight and admission is free. For a list of vendors that will be on-site at the market this Saturday, visit the Facebook event page here. For updates on the Night Market and who will be there, keep an eye on Beacon Park's Facebook page.

The first snow of the season has fallen and the holidays are just around the corner. This Friday night, Detroit will officially get in the holiday spirit at the 15th Annual Detroit Tree Lighting. This year's event will take place on Friday, November 16th from 5 p.m. until Midnight. The festivities will take place at both Beacon Park and Campus Martius Park, and pretty much everywhere in between.

This year's event is bigger and better than ever, with several musical performances, Olympic Figure Skaters, and more. At Beacon ParkJoe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers will be playing inside a heated tent along with Nadir Omowale. There will also be a live stream of the official tree lighting from down the street at Campus Martius. There will be awesome lighting installments, food trucks, drinks, and even Santa will be there!

Over at Campus Martius Park, Ben Sharkey will perform along with The Woodward Horns and headlining act Cece Winans. There will also be performances from ice skating groups and local choirs, plus more food trucks, treats, and carriage rides. Plus, the ice rink will officially open up to the public on Friday night, starting at 9 p.m.

While you're making your way from one park to another, make sure you also stop by the shops at Cadillac Square and Capitol Park too! This will be the official grand opening of the shops for the season. Some of the great brands that you can shop this holiday season include Dolly Rocker’s Handmade and Vintage, Rock Paper Scissors, Yellow Dog Marketplace, and Mitten Crate. The Cadillac Square Lodge will also be open for business. Celebrate Beacon Park's 1st Anniversary with Saint Motel

This weekend, Beacon Park will be celebrating its first anniversary! Over the past year, the park has hosted some great events, but this year's concert series has definitely topped them all. Beacon Park kicked off their 2018 summer concert series last month with Detroit's own JR JR. Now, this weekend they will celebrate their 1st birthday with Saint Motel!

Saint Motel are just about to hit the road on a headlining tour, but first they will play this special FREE show in Detroit. This band has played big name festivals like Coachella, Bonaroo, and Lollapalooza, so getting the chance to see them in one of Detroit's coolest parks, is quite the treat! Plus, during the show, Mindfield will be putting on an awesome light and video show on the G.A.R. building that is across from the park. There will also be food trucks on site, yard games to play, craft beers to sip, and the Night Market will be open during the show.

This is all happening this Saturday, July 21st and things are set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and Detroit's own Flint Eastwood will be getting the party started! So make sure you get there early, because you do not want to miss her! There are other fun free events happening all weekend long at Beacon Park in celebration of their first anniversary, like yoga, spin classes, and a free family fun day. Eat, Shop, and Play at Beacon Park this Summer

Pop-ups have become common place in cities like New York and LA, but they are still a special event when they happen in and around Detroit. After decades of watching commerce leave the city, it's fun to see small businesses coming back to Detroit in a big way. It's also interesting to see what kind of amazing experiences can be created when spaces open themselves up for pop-ups. Some pop-ups feature food and others feature clothing and goods, but all of them bring a new element of commerce to the city that helps shine a spotlight on up and coming small businesses that will shape the future of the Motor City.
Beacon Park will be joining in on the trend by hosting a pop up market everyday Saturday night this summer. The weekly event starts at 7 p.m. and runs through 11 p.m. every Saturday and each week features a different collection of vendors that you can check out. The vendors will be showcasing a variety of items, including handmade jewelry, t-shirts, and much more! The market runs through August and each week will feature different vendors. Each week they will also have some live music, to keep up with everything that they have at the market this summer. Add them on Facebook here to stay in the loop.

The park also hosts a free yoga session every week and hosts food trucks throughout the week. To find out more about the other events at Beacon Park this summer, click here.

Beacon Park Kicks Off Its Summer Concert Series with JR JR

Last summer, a new park hit the streets in Detroit, called Beacon Park. This park sits at the intersection of  Grand River & 1st street and offers a patch of attractive green space in the heart of the city. Throughout last summer, the park hosted pop-up shops and concerts, and was a great gathering place for friends and family to come together to play games, enjoy a picnic, or have some fun on the see-saws. The park even transformed into an arcade just months ago.

Well, summer is here and Beacon Park has some awesome events planned for the season, including bigger and better concerts! This Saturday, June 16th the park will kick off its summer concert series with Detroit's own JR JR (formerly Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.). Wild Belle will be joining JR JR and Inohs Sivad will be opening the show. The concert is FREE to attend and there will even be an awesome light show happening on the nearby G.A.R. Building during the show. Food trucks will also be on site, craft beers and cocktails will be available, and there will even be shops set up around the park.

Saturday's concert is part of a three concert series, with the next taking place on July 21st with St. Motel. The third show will happen on August 18th, but the headliner has not been announced yet. In addition to these concerts there are a ton of other great events happening at Beacon Park, like markets, yoga, volleyball, and family fun Sundays! You check out the current list of events here.

The music is set to start at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and the fun will go until midnight. For more information on this awesome free event and to see a full list of shops and food trucks that will be on site, click here.

Beacon Park Transforms into a "Parcade"

This year, winter seemed to last way longer than usual. Maybe it was because Mother Nature taunted us with a nice day here and there just to follow it up with ice, snow, and bitterly cold temperatures. But, it seems like the weather has finally broke, and (fingers crossed) warmer temperatures and sunshine are here to stay!

If you're yearning to get outside and have some fun in the sun, Beacon Park has something special lined up this weekend. They are hosting a Free Arcade this week that will bring about a dozen of your favorite arcade games out to the park. Some of the games included are Donkey Kong, PacMan, Mario Kart Driver, and Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift. To see a full list of the games that will be on site, click here. The games will be free to play and the "arcade" is open from 10 a.m. 'til 10 p.m. daily. In addition to the arcade, the park also has LED Putt-Putt golf set up this week, which is also free to play. So, head downtown and have some fun at the park this weekend!

Beacon Park is located 1903 Grand River Avenue, at the intersection of Grand River and Cass. To see a full list of all of the fun events coming to the park, head over to their Facebook page or visit their website at
